The Creation - Matariki

Kia ora Ruma Rima,

Here is the link to the legend about Rangi and Papa which not only explains how the world was created but also tell about the creation of Matariki.

Have another look at it and see if you can find another legend about Matariki. Tell us about it when you comment. Maybe you could also show this to your family.

If you would like to have another  look at the  news item about the Matariki kite celebrations in Paihia last year click the link below.

The room 5 visitor

  Written by Biba and Aleeza

On Friday Aleeza's turtle Dash came to room 5 to visit .  She shivered in fear as all the people crowded around . She slowly calmed down when less people came . We wrote sentences about Dash  when school started . Some sentences were describing a lot about Dash. In the afternoon we looked carefully and drew pictures of Dash .

Here are some of our descriptions  of Dash, the turtle

Rhys - Dash the turquoise turtle turned his head as quick as lightning while sitting on the floor and scrambled all the way across the wet carpet recklessly trying to escape.

Berenger - The large, red eyed turtle crawled to the gateway of freedom, as fast as its clawed, webbed feet would carry it.

Damar - The yellow striped turtle waddled slowly across the patterned floor while swishing her teeny - tiny tail.

Evie - The turtle looked carefully around on the floor for an opening.

And some of our drawings

Parent's Homework

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome back to  Year , Term 2.  I hope everyone is well rested and excited to learn lots in Room 5.

At the end of Term 1 you all talked to your parents about your learning at the 3-way conferences.

If you remember we thought it would be good to set the parents some homework.  Not only do they need to make sure we practise our basic facts and our spelling but we thought it would be great if they could read to us.

This is a great way to learn about the meanings of words so we can understand these when we read independently, and so we can use them in our own writing!

Here are a couple of good websites that you could show them with some great read aloud classic books.

If you do read one of these together please comment .
Give it a rating from 1-5 and explain why you gave it this rating.
