Parent's Homework

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome back to  Year , Term 2.  I hope everyone is well rested and excited to learn lots in Room 5.

At the end of Term 1 you all talked to your parents about your learning at the 3-way conferences.

If you remember we thought it would be good to set the parents some homework.  Not only do they need to make sure we practise our basic facts and our spelling but we thought it would be great if they could read to us.

This is a great way to learn about the meanings of words so we can understand these when we read independently, and so we can use them in our own writing!

Here are a couple of good websites that you could show them with some great read aloud classic books.

If you do read one of these together please comment .
Give it a rating from 1-5 and explain why you gave it this rating.

  2. Hana and I are reading a classic - SHADRACH written by Meindert Dejong in 1953. We are loving it especially because it really captures the thoughts and feelings of the main character - a boy named Davie. This is hard for adult writers to do. We give this book 5/5

  3. Evie and I have been to Leys Library and got out some great books - including some that I read when I was a girl, such as Mary Poppins :) Evie is now into Stig of the Dump and says "It's Awesome! "

  4. Our rating for Mary Poppins is 5/5 because the emotions and feelings of the characters are very realistic.

  5. Seb and I (his Dad) read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl. We rated it 5/5 because it was such a fantastic adventure. Each of the five children who went on the tour of the chocolate factory were badly behaved in their own ways, and so they didn't make it through the maze of the factory. Only Charlie Bucket, who was such a good boy, made it through. We enjoyed the prize he got for making it: the factory! He moved into it with his parents and grandparents. We think Roald Dahl is a clever and entertaining writer. We felt we were right there, going through the factory with them.
