Footnote Dance

We had so much fun with the Footnote Dance  Tutors!

Can you remember what they taught us?
Post a comment about what you learnt! Remember this because it will help us to get ready for our part in the school show.

Think also about KIWIANA.  What does this word mean?

Here are some examples of KIWIANA?

Hobbies Inquiries

Last week we had to present our inquiries about hobbies to the class.

 This was a challenge!

We had to:

  •  talk about what we had found out
  • show a slideshow about this
  • answer questions about this when children asked
We learnt a lot about presenting and discovered we needed to:
talk louder.
talk more.
not repeat information on our slides
most importantly, make sure we were finished and really answered the question we were inquiring about.

Here are some photos to show your families.
Post a comment about what you are proud of with this.

Lego is a good hobby to do because it makes your imagination bigger and stronger.
C.I
Lego is cool because you can nearly make anything out of lego

I am in my lavalava dancing with Sulisea.  Samoan people dance
at special occasions like weddings and birthdays.

I was proud of what I found out and that I talked a lot we also had lots of facts.

You should do weaving because you can make many things.SH

The dresses that I am wearing is called Hanboks. YK

I was proud of what I  found out about Korean dance on the internet.ATP

Mostly the meaning of Croatian dance was to have fun and make friends.
HW
I brought in a hat and shoes. We went well and the teacher gave us a 5/10.

Go-karting is a good hobby because it teaches you how to drive for when you are older. EC

Thank you to the girls who organised the timetable for collecting food scraps for our worm farm.  You are doing an awesome job.

Here are the photos of us making the special herb bouquets which we  gave to our Mums on Mother's Day.

Can you remember the names of the herbs that were in these?

Non - fiction reading

Non-Fiction Reading

This term we are trying to get even better at understanding what we read.

We are focusing on:

  •  Activating our prior knowledge (Thinking about what we already know about a topic before and  while we read )
  • Making Connections  (between what we know and what the text says)

We need to use this when reading fiction texts(stories)

but also non-fiction texts (information)

One of the ways you can practise non-fiction is to read  a news article each week for homework.

Here  is a link to the  KIWI KIDS NEWS website.

You may need to read this with your mum or dad so they can help you understand new words.

Please can you make a comment about an article you have read to tell the class.

Welcome to Term 2

Kia ora koutou Ruma rima,

Welcome back to Term 2,

I hope everyone has had a lovely restful holiday and  you are all ready for an exciting term of learning.🙌

We ended the term with our 3 way conferences and  all of you set some goals for this term.            ðŸ‘ª

One important thing we discussed was how to be better organised and ready to work.  Let's try hard with this so we are focused and always doing our best.

We want to become independent learners and use AKO so we do what we promised on our class treaty .

Here are some reminders:
  • Read the timetable every morning
  • Have your device ready everyday
  • Have a sharp pencil, a ruler, and one sensible rubber ready
  • Have a tidy desk
  • Check your work as you go to fix up mistakes
  • Present your work tidily
  • Think about the goals for maths, writing and reading that you talked to your families about and try to achieve these.
  • Ask for help
  • Help others who are needing it
If you can think of anything that I have forgotten please comment on this blog.
Have a wonderful term. I am really looking forward to it.

Miss Cowsill  ðŸ˜‰
