Dance

PE - Dance
Room 5 had their first dance session last Tuesday. Here are some images from our learning

Our warm up was to get the blood pumping around our bodies.

Here we are doing the Hokey Tokey.

                                    Follow the leader
was difficult as we had to make up movements when it was our turn to lead.

The first element we practised was BALANCE
We had to balance on different parts of our bodies.  It was a challenge, especially when it we weren't allowed to use our feet.

Jack W managed to balance on his hands only.

Our team challenge was to connect with each of us making a letter of the alphabet with our body.

What letters can you see?

What are you looking forward to in next week's session?

Biba's Grandad's Talk

Learning about the Kauri from Biba's grandad Ron.

We were so lucky to have Biba's Grandad come in and share a little bit of his expansive knowledge about trees with us.  He knows so much and is so passionate about our NZ native trees, especially the Kauri.  He taught us many things and hopefully has made us wonder about a lot more.

Room 5 and Annie Cowsill would like to thank you, Ron, so much for giving up your time and for all the wonderful things you brought in to show us.  Biba make sure you show Poppa  this blog,

This is a baby Kauri tree leaf.

Here we are showing the size of the 400 year old Kauri's trunk.  It's girth. It has made us wonder how many children it would take to show Tane Mahuta's trunk.  Ron thought about 15.

Look closely at this.  Your challenge is to find the kauri trees in our playground now that you know what the leaves look like.

Wasn't this piece of bark amazing, Ron showed us that so many different plants grow on the Kauri.  It's like it has its own little garden growing up the trunk.  We will have to investigate more about this.

Please could you post a comment about:

  1. something interesting Ron told us
  2. something that Ron made you wonder about
  3. something you would like to say to Ron

Thank you Damar for putting these photos on the blog.

Garden to Table Blog

Garden to Table

Check out this blog. Here is the link

Flower Show

The Flower Show.

What a fantastic way to start Term 4.  It was a trip down Memory Lane when Room 5 went to see their buddies in Room 15 for the Flower Show.  Please, Room 5 can you add a comment about what you remember when you did this wonderful activity in Kakariki!
The room looked so wonderful.

Our buddies had worked so hard.

There was an incredible dinosaur.
We all listened hard to our instructions.

Monty has made a great sheep.

We loved the elephant!

Another cool creature!

Jack W talking to his buddy.

Jackson showing how to look after a little buddy!

Everyone looking closely.

Frankie bending down so he can talk carefully to his buddy.

Rhys and Edwin looking at the train.

Then we helped our buddies write acrostic poems.

Seb and his buddy wrote a great poem.

Life ed session 2

The Digestive System - session 2

We were introduced to Bob!

Joban knew where the intestines are. Ojas suggested the liver. Berenger said the stomach.

Alfie thought the digestive system started at the mouth.

Teeth, saliver and tongue were important key words for this part.

When we spew we spit out stomach acids

These are NOT sausages!  These are the intestines. They suck up all the vitamins and minerals to put into the blood.

The large intestine. This squishes all the waste from the food together.

This is the gall bladder. It produces bile.

This is the pancreas which manages our glucose.

Hana asked how our legs work so we looked quickly at our nervous system.

Finally we got to see Harold and tell him what we had learnt.
Sybilla was chosen to talk first and give Harold a hug.

Here is Jack hugging Harold before sharing what he had learnt.

Harold got us to dance and sing about being healthy. Now can you add a comment about other things  you learnt about the Digestive system.
